Match Scores

Pre-Configured Scoring

OpenTrack has many custom scoring tables specific to certain league or match fixtures, but there are also generic scoring tables available to anyone looking to score their athletics match.

If you don’t think one of our generic systems is compatible with your competition, get in touch, and we can talk through a custom scoring system. Likewise, if there's a custom scoring system for your match already, but you need assistance using it, don't hesitate to get in touch.

Selecting Scoring Table

Competition Setup

Most competitions with team scores have team managers declaring athletes, and therefore it’s best to use our team declaration screens. To do this, you will want make sure you've turned on team declarations, added all the teams to your competition and give them team bibs i.e.: R & RR if you have A & B scorers.

Team Setup

This will make seeding and processing results as easy as possible, as you can create a predefined lane draw which you can copy into each event, and not have to worry about athletes personal bib numbers. This will mean if a team is yet to declare an athlete, the system will still know what team they belong to and give them the relevant points.

Non-Scoring Events

To make an event non-scoring, mark it as such in the advanced configuration settings. Alternatively, if your custom scoring system requires specific event categories, any events with a different category will not be scored.

Non-Scoring Athlete

If you only have one or two non-scoring athletes, it’s often easier to keep them in the same event as all the scoring athletes, but mark them as non-scorers, either for an entire competition, or for a specific event.

Generic Scoring Systems

Pick the scoring system which best suits your competition and then ensure your competition is set up correctly to allow it to function as expected. If one or two aspects of the scoring system isn’t how you would like it, you can always use the score override function to update a specific event's scores, I.E.: to change how relays are scored.

8-7-6… based on position

This scores the best athlete from each team, using an 8-7-6… method, populating one of three tables: Men's, Ladies' or Combined. You can choose which table an event will score for by using the categories M, F and O in your event grid. Relays will be scored using a 12-10-8… method.

If you only care about the combined competition, and you are not scoring individual male and female matches, give all scoring events category O.

6-5-4… based on position

This scores the best athlete from each team using a 6-5-4… method, and will create a Men's, Ladies' and Combined table, using event categories M and F. Relays are scored using the standard 6-5-4 method.

3-2-1 based on position

This will score the best athlete from each team using a 3-2-1 method, and will create a Mens, Womens and Combined table, using event categories M and F. Relays are scored using the standard 3-2-1 method.

World Athletics Points

This system is simplest to use, as all you need to do is select the World Athletics Scoring System and every event will be scored, scoring the 2 best athletes for each team. If you have some N/S events, ensure they are marked accordingly in their advanced configuration settings.

The scores will be calculated based on the number of World Athletics points each athlete's performance is worth, therefore an athlete winning a race by large margin is rewarded, whereas a dead heat would give the athlete all a similar number of points.

Sharing Match Scores

Everyone can see the match scores by heading to the competition on OpenTrack but we also have social cards which you can share to show the top 3/5/8 clubs, allowing competitions to quickly publish the results on all social media platforms who won the match.
