Relay Seeding

Seeding relays is the same as seeding a track race, but you're placing team into the start list rather than individual athletes, and the start list will contain all declared athletes. You can look at our Seeding Docs for single round relays, and our Progression Docs for multi-round relays if you're hosting a championship with heats and finals.

This will help you to get to grips with how to use our automated seeding system, the rest of this docs sets out a few nuanced things about seeding relays compared to individual event.

Relay Start List

While seeding a relay is almost identical to seeding an individual race, you must ensure you have your teams and relay teams properly configured. You can find more information on our Teams Docs Page, but below is a brief list of things to ensure are done correctly.

Creating relay teams:

  • Relay teams will have been created by entry, declaration or manual creation, but the important thing to note is a relay team is tied to a specific event.
  • Therefore if you have a University of Birmingham Team for event T02, but wanted to move them to T01, you would have to create or declare a new relay team for them in T01.
  • Failing to do this will either result in "unknown team" or a team without any declared athletes appearing in the start list and results.

Numbering:

  • By default relay teams bibs will be their relay team id , which will be their [team_code]-[A/B/...]. You can change this to either a simple bib number, by editing the relay team or using the automatic numbering tool which will number every relay team in one go. This will give them a numeric bib number.
  • If you want them to have an assigned team bib, you can either add this by editing the individual relay team, or you can assign a team bib to the team, at the top of the teams page. This would allow all University of Birmingham relay A teams in the competition, to run with the bib BHAM for example.

Declaring athletes

  • To ensure the start lists and results are complete, you will want to have all teams declared.
  • This should be done by team managers in the team declaration pages, if they are having trouble doing this, you can ensure the athletes are added as competitors, note down their bib numbers and add them manually.
  • You just need to edit the relay team, and add the runners bibs as a list, i.e.: [BIB_A],[BIB_B],[BIB_C],[BIB_D].
